Gianmarco Pozzecco has officially been appointed as the new coach of Galatasaray. The Turkish club announced this on their social media platforms: “Our men’s basketball team of Galatasaray MCT Technic has signed a contract with Gianmarco Pozzecco, a significant figure in European basketball, whose coaching experience spans both club and national levels, valid until the end of the 2026/27 season. We wish our new coach success in his role starting January 5, 2026, and extend a warm welcome to him in the Galatasaray family.”

Pozzecco to make his debut against Besiktas
Pozzecco, who has taken over from Yakub Sekizkök, had stepped down from the national team after their elimination in the EuroBasket in September, with Luca Banchi stepping in as his replacement. He will make his debut on January 10 against Besiktas, currently leading the Turkish league. In Super Lig, Galatasaray is in sixth place following a shaky start, with 7 wins and 6 losses. In the Fiba Champions League, they topped group E (which also included Trieste) and secured a direct spot in the Round of 16. Notably, Galatasaray is among the clubs interested in the Nba Europe initiative.
