Jonas Vingegaard will participate in the Giro d’Italia 2026, commencing on Friday, May 8, in Bulgaria. His team, Visma-Lease a Bike, made the announcement in a post on X. “I would love to include the pink jersey in my collection,” stated the Danish cyclist, making his debut in the Giro. Vingegaard, who will kick off his season at the UAE Tour scheduled from February 16 to 22, will also compete in the Tour de France, which starts on July 4. For the 29-year-old Vingegaard, this will mark his first appearance in the Giro throughout his career. He has had very few outings in Italy: notable ones include a Coppi and Bartali (2021) and a Tirreno-Adriatico (2024), just a month prior to the severe injury he sustained at the Giro dei Paesi Baschi, which became a turning point in his career. Vingegaard’s main rival will be Joao Almeida. Should the Dane win the Giro, he would become the eighth cyclist in history to have claimed at least one of the three major stage races.
